Mix #119: Repeat

“Eat, sleep, rave, repeat.” This line from Fatboy Slim’s and Riva Starr’s strangely catchy track has been stuck in my head for a few weeks now.  Would I want to live like that? I don’t think so – I like my repetition cycles longer and more varied. Nevertheless, many things both in life and music are about repetitions and some things actually get better with every repetition. Especially we as electronic music lovers know the feeling of a subtle variation in a loop suddenly giving us goosebumps, right?

Does that sound too philosophic? Well, nevermind. Here’s some banging tech house for you:

Repeat (Sweet Headache Mix #119) by Marvis on Mixcloud

I had the please to meet Marquez Ill a couple of years ago in Aachen where I interviewed him for the local student radio. I have been following his musical output ever since and his latest release called the “Damn Right EP” was really a highlight to me with it deep tech house sounds and vocals that remind me a little bit of Anne Clark.

Another highlight for me in this mix is Mumbai Science’s “Lotus”. I found it in an old DJ set on Radio Soulwax (check them out, they are awesome) and it reminded me a little bit of old acid techno tracks without sounding too old school.

I would also like to highlight Robert Babicz’s track “Rave Angel” which came out this year. Robert is a true veteran and I have been listening to his music for quite a while. “Rave Angel” really surprised me in a positive way though: It is one of those tracks that really takes you on a journey and shows that electronic dance music does not only have to be about loops and repetitions.
