Mix #108: Dance Like Machines

Dance like machines

Electronic music has been seen as “machine music” for a long time, especially in its early days. The idea of machines making music or even dancing to it seems to attract and alienate people at the same time – which might be the reason why electronic music is both fascinating to many, but also quite polarizing.

This mix symbolizes this ambiguity to me in a very nice way. This is elegant machine music and you could imagine people dancing to it together with advanced robots like the two ballroom-dancing robots that you can see in the picture above. Here is the mix:

I have to admit that I don’t know much about them, but Pleasurekraft have made their way into many sets of mine in the last 1-2 years. Their tracks might not sound as spectacular and anthemic as others, but they have that certain something that gets people on the dancefloor and keeps them there. I can play their productions at the beginning or at the end of an evening, they work at almost any time – and that is really rare.

I also dug out an older track by Piet Bender whom I interviewed a while ago here on Sweet Headache. He makes that certain style of Techno that I was looking for in this mix, so this was a good fit.

I am usually not a fan of most of the big names in electronic dance music, but Deadmau5 keeps convincing me again and again with his productions. His latest track “Suckfest9001” showcases his signature sound of combining melodic parts with rough wobble sounds once more. This guy is just a great example of a producer who has found his style without copying himself over and over again.
