Sweet Headache 068: Vampire Slayer

It’s my summer break right now which means that I don’t DJ a lot in public at the moment. Even though I love playing in front of a crowd, I have to say I really enjoy being able to listen to music without having to think about the next gig.
This mix is probably a little too edgy for the parties I usually play, but I just needed it. It’s a selection of Maximal Electro, EBM and Fidget House tracks with a lot of distortion, oldschool synth sounds and banging beats. I needed that – and I hope you do, too.
The first track by famous mashup duo Loo&Placido contains a couple of samples from Atari Teenage Riot tracks. I have been listening to Atari Teenage Riot a lot when I was a teenager, and I recently learned that they just reunited and released a new album. Their sound certainly is unique, but also among the most extreme and distorted stuff you can get.
The two tracks by Inertia and Corporate Soldiers are taken from the “Face the Beat Vol.1″ compilation by Side-Line magazine. You can download this 50-track compilation for free from their Facebook page. Side-Line focusses mostly on EBM / Industrial music, and some tracks on that compilation might sound somewhat alien to many electronic music lovers. However, I think that there is a strong musical link between Techno and EBM / Industrial sounds even though the corresponding fan crowds are very different.
I would also like to highlight the new Tangowerk project that combines Tango sounds with electronic music. At first, it reminded me of Electro Swing since the idea behind it seems somewhat similar: Take traditional dance music and combine it with electronic beats. However, as the track “Dancing on the Volcano” niceley demonstrates, Tango has a generally different mood than Swing and it deserves to be considered distinctly.
