Sweet Headache 051: “Dancing Ladybugs”

A few weeks ago, I DJed at my first self-organized Electro Swing party – and it was a blast! The club was packed with happy, dancing people – and we even a couple of Lindy Hop dancers there. This was enough reason for me to record another Electro Swing mix:

I dug out the track “Doop” from 1994 for this mix. It was a huge hit back then, long before Electro Swing became a genre of its own. You can tell by the beats that this is not a current production, but it’s still a nice track.

By contrast, “The Golden Boy” is a fresh track from Parov Stelar’s latest release “The Paris Swing Box”. Parov Stelar is from Vienna (Austria), and this city seems to breed great Electro Swing artists. Not only is Vienna the home of Etage Noir Records (Parov’s label), but it is also where Herr Tischbein comes from. He is a new Electro Swing artists whose chance at making a mainstream impact is pretty high – at least in Germany and Austria. If you don’t understand the lyrics, it doesn’t really matter. “Sympathie” (english: sympathy) is just a little song about feeling good when listening to this music – and that’s basically all you need to know to enjoy it..

One of my favorite Electro Swing tracks right now is “On The Downbeat” by Swing Republic. I found it on the compilation “White Mink: Black Cotton Vol.2“, and if you are interested in going deeper into Electro Swing, this compilation is for you. What I especially like about this is that it shows the breadth of the sound. I have shown mostly the House-influenced side of Electro Swing, but there is also a lot of other flavors in here. This is one of the things that makes me confident that Electro Swing is not a one-trick pony, but a true genre and here to stay.
