Sweet Headache 049: “Modern Disco Stylings” (by TIM o.S.)

Creating a new mix was long overdue for me, yet something as simple as recording an hour of fiddling around on the turntables proved to be a more daunting task than I thought, when increasing demands from work, a nasty cold and nagging friends started consuming more and more of my time.

Nevertheless, here it is. Without much time to think off a concept, the set turned out quite a spontaneous session, mixing old and new together to create a groovy beginning and a darker, more spacey second half. Some might think it sounds more like a jam session and less like a well planned out mix, but I like that approach, and am fine with that.

Some tracks I’d like to highlight include “My Sombrero”, “Moon Jocks n Prog Rocks” and “Lord of the Hansarings”. The first of these is an old Cosmic track by Italian DJ Gianni Maselli, released on the classic Tribal Italia label which was a staple of the Cosmic scene in the 90s. It’s one of those fun tracks that just make me smile everytime while I’m dancing.

“Moon Jocks n Prog Rocks” is a track taken from Todd Terje’s “Remaster of the Universe” compilation. It provides both a nice mix by the master of dubby Nu Disco on the first disc, and a set of unmixed tracks he had remix duties off. “Moon Jocks n Prog Rocks” is just one of the highlights.

Finally, I included a cut of a vinyl compilation named “Global Bass Vol. 1″, which offers a wild mix of danceable World Music inspired tunes.
